Drydocks World, a subsidiary of DP World, announced yesterday that it has been awarded a contract to refurbish and extend the operational life of the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Baobab Ivorian by Modic Management Services Pte Ltd. The project, scheduled to commence in May 2025 and last for eight months, will include extensive structural improvements to the vessel, including the refurbishment of 1,000 tons of steel, the coating of 250,000 square meters of tanks, and the installation of 11,500 meters of new piping. The scope of work also includes improving crew accommodations and integrating advanced technologies to enhance the vessel's efficiency and reliability.

Upon completion, the vessel's lifespan will be extended by an additional 15 years, ensuring continued energy production in the West African region.

In the field of ship refurbishment, life extension, and conversion, Drydocks World has completed more than 50 similar projects, including more than 30 upgrades to floating production storage and offloading vessels.

The Baobab Ivorian has a production capacity of 70,000 barrels of oil per day and 75 million cubic feet of natural gas. It can also pump 100,000 barrels of water per day and store up to two million barrels of crude oil.

The vessel is currently operating in the Baobab oil field, located 25 kilometers off the coast of Côte d'Ivoire. The vessel will be transferred to Drydocks World's facility in Dubai for the eight-month refurbishment.

The contract signing ceremony was held at Drydocks World's headquarters in the presence of Captain Dr. Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, and Gary Kennedy, President of Modic Management Services Pte Ltd.

Captain Dr. Rado Antolovic said that the agreement with MODEC confirms Drydocks World's experience in implementing refurbishment and life extension projects for floating storage and offloading vessels.

For his part, Gary Kennedy said that this contract was awarded to Drydocks World after a careful selection process to find the ideal partner for this crucial project. Drydocks World's extensive experience in refurbishing floating storage and offloading vessels, and its strict commitment to quality and safety standards, made it the ideal choice.
