Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, launched the Dubai Legacy Initiative to document the emirate’s history.

Sheikh Hamdan said in a post on the “X” platform: “Today, we launched (Dubai Legacy), a unique initiative that aims to document the history of the emirate with community participation by collecting and preserving stories and life experiences that embody the features of Dubai’s development and the lives of its people over time.”
His Highness pointed out that “each individual has a story that bears their unique imprint, and from it generations pass on a legacy full of achievements,” and that the “Dubai Legacy” initiative will collect the emirate’s history in a digital archive that preserves the memory of its people and protects its identity.
Sheikh Hamdan called on everyone to “participate in this community movement and contribute to writing Dubai’s history and carrying its past into its future, so that its legacy remains firmly rooted in the memory of generations, a witness to a city that has never stopped inspiring,” by documenting the stories of families, individuals and institutions that have contributed significantly to the emirate’s growth.
The initiative, through a harmonious blend of storytelling, artistic expression and interactive experiences, aims to “enhance a sense of belonging and unity among Dubai’s residents and visitors, as well as highlighting the depth of the city’s rich cultural and historical heritage,” in addition to embodying Dubai’s vision to preserve the stories of the past and convey them with a contemporary spirit to inspire future ambitions.
