Entertainment or amusement

Any activity that provides entertainment or allows people to amuse themselves in their free time.

Entertainment is usually such as watching opera or cinema and activities that involve participating in games or sports are most often considered entertainment. Activities such as personal reading or practicing playing musical instruments are considered hobbies. The industry that provides entertainment is called the entertainment industry. There are many forms of entertainment, which satisfy special tastes.

Forms of entertainment

There are many activities that people find entertaining, however, activities that one person may find entertaining may not be entertaining for another. Some types of things that some people find entertaining include the following.

Hunting

Hunting was associated with human migration, but after the stage of settlement and the discovery of agriculture, herding and activities associated with settlement and urbanization, hunting became practiced to keep away predators that threatened villages and the livestock that humans raised. It developed into a recreational sport for nobles and gentlemen and many amateurs, including hunting in the Middle Ages, including hunting with dogs and falcons and using bows and arrows.

Animation

Some people find animation entertaining. Similarly, some people find cartoons entertaining.

Cinema and Theater

Many people find cinema and/or theater and any other live performance such as circus, musicals, farces, monologues, and mimes entertaining.

Comedy

Comedy provides laughter and amusement. The audience is taken by surprise, either by parody or satire for unexpected effect or contrary to the expectations of their cultural beliefs. Slapstick, staged jokes, and observational jokes are forms of comedy that have developed since the early days of clowns and traveling minstrels.

Comics

A comic consists of text and drawings that convey an entertaining narrative. Many popular comics revolve around great heroes such as Superman and Batman. Comic book publishers include Marvel Comics and DC Comics. Manga is the Japanese word for comics and printed cartoons. Comics

A comic is a graphic entertainment. The purpose may vary from simply putting a smile on the face of the viewer, to raising social awareness, to highlighting the moral vices of a person depicted.

Dance and Music

Many people find social dancing entertaining, as well as a popular forum for social interaction. Alternatively, some people enjoy simply listening to or watching musical entertainment in various forms, in private or public settings.

Reading

Many people also find reading an entertaining and exciting pastime, although different people choose different types of books and magazines, and some enjoy television and celebrity gossip magazines, for example.

Games

Games provide relaxation and entertainment. Games can be played by one person for private amusement, or by a group of people. Some may be played for achievement or money, such as gambling or bingo. Some games, such as racing, chess or checkers, may involve physical or mental prowess. Games may be aimed at children, or may be played outdoors, such as lawn bowling. Equipment may be necessary for the game, such as playing cards for a card game, or a board and game markers for a game such as monopoly, or backgammon. A few might be ball games, blind man's bluff, board games, card games, children's games, croquet, frisbee, hide and seek, numbers games, colors, and video games.
