Under the slogan "Women Lead the Way to Sustainability - The Path to a Greener Future", the General Women's Union, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the country, organized a dialogue session on the occasion of International Women's Day.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, delivered a speech in which he opened the session, saying that Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, "Mother of the Emirates", Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, had the greatest role in empowering women, and transforming the ideas, principles and values ​​upon which the UAE was founded into policies, programs and initiatives on the ground that support women and enhance their capabilities and place, and thus the continuous achievements have been achieved over half a century.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, which falls on March 8 of each year, His Excellency said that without the efforts of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, "Mother of the Emirates", her continuous support, and her follow-up on the women, children and family file, these achievements that we are proud of the world and place on International Women's Day as an experience that everyone around the world can benefit from would not have been achieved.


His Excellency explained that celebrating International Women's Day in light of the Year of Society, which the UAE is experiencing, makes us more confident in the capabilities and energies of women in supporting and enhancing the values ​​of society, protecting it and qualifying new generations of its sons, and this is what we learned from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, "may God protect him", who places the support and care of Emirati women at the top of his priorities, because he sees them as one of the most important elements on which Emirati society is based, and that they are partners in all steps of the Emirati renaissance in various fields, stressing that the achievements of Emirati women have become a global model that we are proud of.


His Excellency said that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God bless his soul, was convinced that the great energies of women were necessary for the development of the nation, and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak shared this conviction, so she worked with him and after him to unleash these energies for the benefit of women and the nation, over the course of half a century.


His Excellency stressed that celebrating International Women's Day makes us more proud of Emirati women as a global model, as they realized with their great capabilities and sound nature that tolerance generates compassion, and enables people of different genders, ages, nationalities, religions, languages, cultures, abilities or life situations to dialogue and cooperate as human beings, as each of them deserves dignity and respect.


She also learned that we must cooperate together and share mutual respect with everyone, as she believes that understanding others allows us to accept differences to unite together for our common humanity, noting that women around the world excel in unleashing the power of tolerance and productive coexistence, and their influence is increasing in this direction and that they have added a lot to the global environment with their wisdom, compassion, openness and deep respect for people, and these traits extended from the workplace to the home as a mother, and the experience with its positive effects was transferred to new generations.

His Excellency explained that the role of women in renaissance and progress does not need further explanation, as the successes and achievements of Emirati women in various fields are thanks to the support and encouragement of the wise leadership since the founding of the country, including their role in promoting the values ​​of coexistence and tolerance within the UAE society, known for its cultural diversity, and at the global level, stressing that the Emirati people are proud that Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak is a role model and a global example to be emulated in promoting the values ​​of giving, tolerance and human coexistence through her humanitarian and development initiatives at the local and global levels, as her white hands have extended to various countries of the world, targeting the good and prosperity of humanity, strengthening human ties, and advancing and empowering women wherever they are. For her part, Her Excellency Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women's Union, said that the session addressed a very important topic, namely the role of women in facing the challenges of climate change and promoting environmental sustainability, and that the ongoing discussion of the role of women and the integration of gender equality in sustainability confirms their position as a strategic partner in shaping a sustainable future.


Empowering women will positively reflect on their communities and the world by building more adaptable and innovative communities. She said that Emirati women have proven over the past 53 years their outstanding ability to lead positive change in various fields, and this success would not have been achieved without the wise vision and sound guidance of the wise leadership and the tireless efforts of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, "Mother of the Emirates", as Her Highness worked to enhance women's empowerment and consolidate their position as an effective partner in sustainable development, efforts that have borne fruit in the leadership positions that Emirati women hold today within files related to the country's efforts to achieve environmental sustainability and confront the challenges of climate change locally and internationally.
