Stuck Squirrel Wins Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2024

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) -- A photo of a squirrel stuck in a tree has won the overall prize at this year's Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.

The photo was taken by Milko Marchetti, organizers said in a statement. It shows a red squirrel in a funny pose as it enters its hideout in a tree, with its legs stuck in the trunk.

"I have taken many photos of squirrels in different situations over the years in Italy," Marchetti said in a statement. "But this one seemed really funny to me because it captures the moment the squirrel detaches its hind legs from the trunk in order to enter its hideout."

Milco Marchetti's photo was selected from more than 9,000 entries, the highest number in the competition's 10-year history.
