The trade of the "darling brown" in the UAE records 510 thousand tons, with a value of 7.6 billion dirhams

The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center announced that the trade of coffee, tea and coffee in the UAE reached about 7.6 billion dirhams during the first nine months of 2024, with a total weight of nearly 510 thousand tons.

The center indicated that the UAE's trade of the favorite drink for the majority of the population is distributed over imports worth four billion dirhams, weighing 298 thousand tons, exports worth nearly 1.3 billion dirhams, weighing 54 thousand tons, and re-exports worth 2.3 billion dirhams, weighing 158 thousand tons.

This boom in coffee consumption comes due to its importance and distinguished position in the Emirati and Arab heritage, as it is a symbol of generosity, hospitality and hospitality to guests, and it is also the lady of councils, and the unmatched companion of the Arab.


This distinguished status was a motivation for efforts to include it on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which was crowned with success in 2015, through a request submitted by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar.

It was not limited to its importance as an element of heritage, but was reflected in many initiatives that gave this “darling brown” a modern presence that moved it from the heart of heritage to the forefront of economic, social and cultural activities. In 2019, as part of its efforts to preserve the cultural heritage, the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi launched the first championship of its kind dedicated to preparing Arabic coffee, which is currently organized as part of the Al Hosn Festival activities, and is divided into three competitions: Coffee Maker, Coffee Roasting and the Best Innovative Drink with Arabic Coffee.
