UAE Under World Cancer Day 2025

The Emirates Cancer Society celebrated receiving the Best Public Benefit Society Award for the year 2024 from the Department of Community Development - Abu Dhabi, and the "Etisalat" Award for more community service at the state level, during a ceremony held on the occasion at the Family Development Center in Al Ain, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Salem bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Cancer Society, and a number of officials and representatives of associations and institutions, in addition to the presence of His Excellency Awad Salem Al Saadi, Executive Director and members of the Board of Directors of the Society Adam Mohammed Al Balushi, Saleh Khater and Ghawiya Al Badi, Head of the Psychological and Moral Support Team, and Dr. Muhammad Al Sayed Abdul Rahman, Director of Business Development, and members and volunteers from all branches of the Society in the Emirates.

On this occasion, the UAE participated with countries around the world in celebrating World Cancer Day, which falls on February 4, as a global occasion to enhance international health efforts, in order to raise the level of health awareness of cancer and ways to prevent it and the role of early detection and adopting healthy lifestyles in raising recovery rates from the disease.


Health authorities have organized a number of educational events, programs and initiatives, and exchanged experiences and expertise on the best health awareness programs to combat cancer, and encouraged and supported studies and research to achieve continuous development of prevention, medical care and treatment strategies.

The slogan of World Cancer Day, set by the Union for International Cancer Control for the period 2025-2027, "United through Uniqueness", emphasizes a people-centered approach to care and explores new ways to make a beneficial impact.

Health authorities in the country continue their tireless efforts to raise awareness and prevent cancer by launching educational programs and providing integrated medical services aimed at enhancing community awareness about the importance of early detection and methods of prevention and treatment. These efforts come within their strategy to support national efforts in combating cancer and promoting community health.


As part of its commitment to reducing the spread of cancer, the Emirates Health Services Corporation focuses on implementing integrated health programs to limit the spread of the disease through awareness campaigns and programs, early examinations, and preventive vaccinations.


The Foundation has taken a pioneering step in early detection of breast cancer using artificial intelligence, which is the ideal solution as an effective first step before performing a mammogram, which enhances the accuracy of diagnosis and contributes to saving lives by detecting cancer in its early stages.


These efforts reflect the Emirates Health Services Corporation's firm commitment to promoting public health and preventing cancer, by providing comprehensive health programs aimed at achieving the highest standards of health and preventive care.


The UAE is distinguished by providing an integrated health organization to deal with cancer diseases, based on prevention, and providing the latest treatments and care methods in the event of infection.


In this context, the health sector in the country facilitates regular examinations and rapid treatment of cancer, thus reducing the number of deaths associated with it. And enhancing the chances of survival from the disease, as well as encouraging early detection, which enables us all to reduce the burden of this disease and pave the way for a healthier future.

The UAE is considered one of the leading countries in the field of health services provided to cancer patients, especially since the spread of cancer in the country is still lower than its rates in the world, and the country continues its pioneering efforts to reduce the rates of early deaths resulting from cancer.


The National Cancer Prevention and Control Plan was developed as part of the national agenda aimed at reducing the cancer mortality rate (number of cancer deaths per 100,000 population) and is in line with the objectives of the World Health Organization's Global Action Plan for Cancer Control.


The UAE has been keen to promote health education about the risk factors for cancer and the signs and symptoms of the disease, using the media, social media programs, smart applications, and community awareness programs, and implementing and applying health education programs in schools and universities, in order to raise awareness of cancer.


As part of its strategic direction to reduce the rate of cancer in the country according to the national indicator included in the objectives of the national agenda, health authorities have launched many health programs and campaigns to prevent cancer, in addition to activating national programs to combat cancer as a shared responsibility between the government and private sectors.

These efforts have yielded significant successes in reducing the number of cancer deaths, as data from the national indicator (number of cancer deaths per 100,000 population) shows that the cancer mortality rate has decreased over the past years.


The state is striving to reduce premature death and the risk of cancer by 25% in 2025. Health authorities continue to conduct health awareness campaigns on cancer for target groups through visual and audio communication and harness technological capabilities to reach the largest possible segment of society.


Health authorities have launched updated scientific evidence for breast, cervical and colon cancer based on the latest international practices, to raise the efficiency of health workers, provide the best preventive and therapeutic services for cancer patients, and increase awareness among community members about the importance of early detection in protecting the public health of community members.


Health authorities plan to enhance research and development in the field of medicine and provide innovative scientific solutions to current and future health challenges, in addition to building strong partnerships with health and community institutions and partners to improve health and prevent diseases.
