The Ugandan Ministry of Health confirmed yesterday an Ebola outbreak in the capital, Kampala, where the first deaths were recorded the day before.

One of the infected, a nurse at Mulago Hospital in the capital, initially sought treatment at various facilities, including Mulago, after developing fever-like symptoms.
The ministry said he “suffered multiple organ failure and was admitted to Mulago National Hospital on January 29, and post-mortem samples confirmed he was infected with the Sudan strain of Ebola virus.”

The highly contagious haemorrhagic fever is transmitted through contact with infected fluids and tissues. Symptoms include headache, vomiting blood, muscle pain and bleeding.
