The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team Looks to Continue Its Achievements in 2024 The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team awaits a rich agenda of important continental and international events in 2024, including 7 major championships to be held from April to November. The sons and daughters of the Emirates look forward to continuing the journey of achievements in the new year and achieving more records. The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team players presented an exceptional season last year, during which they won more than 100 medals. It started with the Asian Championship in Thailand, winning 16 medals, the Grand Prix Championship in France, winning 16 medals, and the Grand Prix Championship in Thailand, winning 20 medals. The UAE champions maintained their Jiu-Jitsu World Championship title for the fourth year in a row during the competitions held in the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar, winning 14 medals; They also topped the overall rankings at the World Junior Championships held in the Kazakh capital Astana, achieving a record number of 46 medals. The players continued their brilliance at the 19th Asian Games in China, winning 10 medals, and the Emiratis contributed to enhancing the country’s medal tally with their participation in the World Combat Games Championship in Riyadh, winning 4 gold medals.

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu team intends to participate in 7 major regional, continental and international championships during the current year, including the Gulf Youth Sports Games hosted by Abu Dhabi; and the Grand Prix Championships in Paris and Thailand. The team will also participate in the Gulf Indoor and Martial Arts Games, held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Greece; and the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand in the last quarter of the year.


The eighth edition of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship, hosted by the capital Abu Dhabi next May, is considered one of the most prominent continental events for the team, in light of its tireless efforts to defend its title for the fourth year in a row.

The Gulf Youth Sports Games, hosted by Abu Dhabi next April, is the latest addition to the regional Jiu-Jitsu agenda, and comes at a time when the game is witnessing an unprecedented spread in the Gulf countries, led successfully by the UAE and the capital Abu Dhabi, which is considered the regional, continental and international home of Jiu-Jitsu and the capital of international decision-making related to developing the sport.


The UAE national team is keen to participate in these continental and international championships and win them, as they directly affect the players’ professional careers and provide ranking points for the winners, which qualifies them to participate in the World Games and the World Combat Games Championship, each of which is of great importance to professionals. Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said: “Our national team is participating in these championships as a strong candidate to retain its titles, while its stars are looking forward to confirming the country’s superiority and consolidating its continental and global leadership in the game, by continuing the journey of achievements and gains that have been made over the past years. Our ambition goes beyond winning championships and aims to write history and break records whenever possible. We are fortunate to have our wise leadership that provides us with all the factors and elements to continue our successful journey with achievements, especially its continuous support for the sports movement in the country in general, and the sport of Jiu-Jitsu in particular, which led the UAE to achieve the most prominent achievements on the continental and global levels, in addition to hosting the most important international championships, and consolidating the country’s position as a global home for the sport of Jiu-Jitsu.” For his part, Mansour Al Ketbi, Deputy CEO of Corporate Affairs and Human Resources at Mubadala Investment Company, wished the UAE Jiu-Jitsu team to continue its distinguished journey of successes on the continental and global levels, during its participation in the championships that it will participate in this year. He said: “We are confident that the national team will continue to win titles and enhance our country’s position on the global sports map. We at Mubadala are proud of our partnership and contribution to strengthening and supporting the journey of national cadres in various fields, and Jiu-Jitsu in particular.”

The comprehensive training programs and internal and external camps contribute significantly to discovering and refining national talents. The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation has identified a number of international destinations to hold the national team’s camps as part of its preparations for upcoming participations, in line with efforts to raise the players’ readiness and prepare them physically and mentally to enable them to compete at the highest levels.

These camps constitute a fundamental step in the preparation phase of the national team and equip it to compete in upcoming events. They also play a major role in achieving harmony between the players, and between them and the technical staff, and enhancing the capabilities, talents and technical techniques that will be the main factor in reaching the podiums.

Brazilian Ramon Lemos, coach of the UAE national team, said: “We are keen to reach the highest level of readiness and best preparation for the upcoming events. We are doing our best by paying attention to the smallest details that can contribute to supporting our champions during their mission to win more titles, as we focus on refining the players’ skills and improving their physical, technical and skill performance. We aspire to consolidate our global leadership in sports and double our achievements in the coming months.” For his part, Abdullah Al Kubaisi, player of the UAE national team, said: “It is a great honor to have the opportunity to represent the country in continental and international forums.
