The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has announced the launch of the School Quality of Life Mark Program, which aims to classify schools based on criteria related to the culture of school quality of life, to be added to traditional academic criteria, making school quality of life an important and transparent factor, and a measurable standard.

The new program comes in line with the importance that parents attach to the environment that schools provide for students, and the program is scheduled to be implemented in all private schools and educational partnership schools in Abu Dhabi, starting from the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year.

Research has revealed a direct relationship between school quality of life and students’ educational outcomes, as supportive and stimulating environments contribute to improving academic performance, enhancing adaptability, and increasing positive interaction with the learning process.

The School Life Quality Label provides an unprecedented level of transparency, allowing parents, for the first time, to have a clear and unified measure of the extent to which the school supports the mental, physical and emotional health of students and teachers. They can also see the school’s efforts to provide a happier, healthier and more supportive learning environment for students. Quality education is not limited to achieving high scores, but also includes raising children in a school that prioritises the development of all aspects of the child’s personality.

The School Life Quality Label is based on five key dimensions of quality: self-empowerment, physical health, mental development, communication skills and emotional safety. Each of these includes three main elements, ensuring that schools adopt a structured and flexible approach to integrating school life quality into daily experiences.

The pilot phase this year includes 64 schools, including 47 private schools and 17 educational partnership schools.
