In a proactive step to shape the future of Arab media, Dubai Media Academy, affiliated with Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI), launched the "Artificial Intelligence in Arab Media Initiative." The initiative is part of its participation in Dubai Artificial Intelligence Week, held from April 21 to 25, 2025, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, and organized by the Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence, an initiative of the Dubai Future Foundation.

Empowering the Arabic Language... with its Vocabulary and Dialects
The initiative aims to develop integrated and specialized artificial intelligence solutions in Arab media, focusing on empowering the Arabic language in all its dialects, while taking into account the rich cultural and social differences that characterize Arab societies. The initiative seeks to ensure the production of digital content that reflects Arab cultural identity and speaks to the public in their own language and awareness.
Responding to the Needs of Arab Media
The initiative came as a direct response to the Academy's recommendations during workshops and dialogue sessions held over the past year, which focused on the current technical gap regarding smart tools capable of understanding the linguistic and cultural depth of Arab culture. Through this initiative, the Academy seeks to bring together media institutions, technology companies, universities, and research centers under one umbrella to develop original solutions that address major challenges such as the poor representation of dialects, the lack of accurate training data, and the difficulty of producing visual content that reflects identity.
Reference Document Outlines Roadmap
In a related context, the Dubai Media Academy announced the first edition of "A Case Study of Artificial Intelligence in Arab Media," a reference document and roadmap that guides technical and research efforts toward building customized tools that meet the needs of Arab media while preserving its identity and credibility.
Supporting the Cultural Identity of Arab Societies
For her part, Muna Busamra, Director of the Dubai Media Academy, stated:
"This initiative represents a realistic response to the needs of the Arab media sector. The discussions conducted by the Academy highlighted the need to develop artificial intelligence tools capable of understanding our diverse language and culture."
She emphasized that the Academy, as a knowledge and research entity, is putting its expertise at the service of efforts aimed at supporting Arab media technically, enhancing its global presence and preserving the privacy of its communities.
Media and Technology Integration to Build the Future
For his part, Asim Jalal, Consultant at the Dubai Media Academy, pointed out that what distinguishes the initiative is the shared enthusiasm among various media and technology stakeholders to participate in shaping the future of Arab media. He noted that this step represents a qualitative shift towards smarter media that is more connected to the nation's identity.
