Dubai Marathon 2025: A global race in the heart of the city

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, crowned the winners of the 24th edition of the Dubai Marathon, which was held with the support of the Dubai Sports Council, on Umm Suqeim Street in the Jumeirah area with the participation of an elite group of international runners, and more than 17,000 male and female runners of different nationalities and ages from inside and outside the country.

The main marathon saw 10 runners clock under 2:10 hours, with Gemechu claiming the title after completing the race in 2:04:51 hours. Compatriots Birhanu Tsegu came in second and third with a time of 2:05:14 hours and Shifera Tamru with a time of 2:05:28 hours. Meanwhile, Herba Bedatou claimed the women’s title after completing the main marathon in 2:18:27 hours. Compatriots Dera Dida came in second and third with a time of 2:18:32 hours and Tigist Girma with a time of 2:20:47 hours. The top three finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories will receive cash prizes.

While the Moroccan Yasser Chaachoui won the 10 km race for men, completing the race in 28:20 minutes, followed by the Ethiopian Halfoum Kidano in second and third place respectively, with a time of 28:33 minutes, and the Moroccan Ismail Kharchi in second and third place respectively, in the same race, the two Ethiopians Gemini Tunku and Chalto Derbia came in the same time of 31:03 minutes, while the British Eilish McColgan came in third place with a time of 31:14 minutes.

The Dubai Marathon 2025 was held, with the participation of 63 runners from the elite world champions, record holders and winners of the most famous marathons in the world, in the 24th edition, under the patronage of the Dubai Sports Council.


The marathon includes 3 races: the classic marathon of 42.195 km, in which elite runners participate, the 10 km race, and the 4 km family race.

This distinguished event was launched for the first time in 2000 under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him. Over the years, the marathon has gained wide fame thanks to the records set by runners, which made it reserve its place as one of the most important marathon races in the world.

The Dubai Sports Council reviewed the preparations for organising the 23rd edition of the Dubai World Marathon, the oldest long-distance running race in the Middle East, which is supported by the Council, with the participation of a group of prominent international runners, during a meeting attended by Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary General, Peter Connerton, General Manager of the Marathon, and Alan Youens, Media Director of the race.
