Iraq wins Gulf Veterans Cup on penalties

The Iraqi national football team won the Gulf Veterans Cup in its first edition by defeating its Omani counterpart 4-3 on penalty kicks in the final match this evening after the regular time ended in a goalless draw.

The tournament, organized by the Gulf Football Federation in Kuwait from February 22 to 26, was held with the participation of 8 teams: the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.
The Iraqi national team players received the cup, gold medals, and $200,000 in prize money at the coronation ceremony at Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium, while the Omani team received silver medals and a $150,000 runner-up prize.

The best goalkeeper award in the tournament was given to Iraqi Noor Sabri, and his teammate Karrar Jassim won the best player award, while the tournament's top scorer award went to Ismail Al-Ajmi, a player on the Omani national team.
The Iraqi national team started its journey in the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Yemen on Saturday, then tied with Bahrain yesterday, Sunday.

Iraq defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0 in their match today and topped its second group with 7 points.
The tournament was held in Kuwait during the period from February 22 to 26, with the participation of 8 Gulf teams divided into two groups.
According to the tournament system, each match is played for 40 minutes, divided into two halves of 20 minutes each, as the semi-final matches are scheduled to be held on February 25, and the tournament will conclude with the final match on the 26th of the same month.
